Partnering to Make Technology More Accessible

“Together, Samsung and Float are setting a new standard for tech accessibility, demonstrating that with the right support, everyone can experience the future of technology today.” — Astrid Meintjes, Head of E-Commerce, Samsung South Africa

In this case study, Astrid Meintjes, Head of E-Commerce for Samsung South Africa, discusses their partnership with Float.

Who is Samsung South Africa?

Samsung is a global leader in technology, known for its innovation and cutting-edge products, from smartphones and smart TVs to home appliances. Samsung has established itself as a go-to brand for those looking for high-quality, reliable tech. Shopping on Samsung.com comes with numerous benefits, including access to the latest products, exclusive deals, free shipping, and returns, and a localised, secure shopping experience.

The Challenge

Samsung South Africa wanted to make its high-tech products more accessible to a broader audience, ensuring that more people could enjoy the latest technology without being hindered by upfront costs. They needed a solution that would provide their customers with flexible payment options to manage these purchases better.

The Solution

Samsung found the ideal partner in Float to help meet their objectives:

#1 Samsung sought a way to help customers manage the cost of high-value products over a longer period than other BNPLs could offer. Float offered the ideal solution with its interest-free monthly instalment plans, enabling customers to spread payments over a longer period without incurring additional costs.

#2 To reduce conversion barriers and lower cart abandonment rates at checkout, Samsung sought a payment partner with a sign-up-free, seamless checkout flow. They chose Float because it was the only interest-free instalment provider without an application process.

#3 Float’s track record of processing bigger ticket items dovetailed with Samsung’s goals to increase conversions and average order values.

The Results

Since partnering with Float in 2023, Samsung South Africa has witnessed a notable shift in customer behaviour. Up to 20% of all purchases are now financed through Float, showing a significant adoption rate of the payment platform among their consumers. Additionally, Samsung has seen an increase in conversion rates and average order value.

“The collaboration between Float and Samsung is a great example of how technology and financial solutions can work together to enhance our consumer’s experience.” — Astrid Meintjes, Head of E-Commerce, Samsung South Africa
